House of Huia is proud to present the Single Vendor Auction of the Press Art Collection, a rare and historically significant offering from a newspaper that has shaped our city for generations. The sale features a substantial body of original artworks from the early 20th century by the talented W. A. Bowring, a stalwart of The Press who contributed enormously to the social commentary of the important issues of his day. Many of the works in this collection depict individuals who played a defining role in the founding and growth of Christchurch, the forebears of a great many people still here today. The collection also includes two magnificent works by Annie Elizabeth Kelly, the noted Christchurch artist, both of which once hung in The Press boardroom. The breadth of this remarkable collection is both impressive and reflective, tracing the change in Christchurch over time, while The Press itself has been there throughout, keeping us informed of what's happening both here and abroad. The sale will be exhibited in our Gallery and the auction will be held on the 3rd of October at 11am
