This exceptional was apart of the ceremonial uniform of the Governor (the role before the Governor General was created) of New Zealand. The Earl of Ranfurly was the Governor from 1897 to 1904 and oversaw a number of important historical development of our young nations history. His sword was with him for many including the annexation of the Cook Islands on the 7th October 1900 The sword was sold by the family at auction in England and is now presented for auction here in New Zealand.
