Lot 27 & 28 are a fascinating pair of New Zealand Maritime history. These Thomas Mercer Chronometers where purchased for the voyage of the MV Arahanga (NZ Inter-islander from 1972 -2001) from the shipbuilders in Glasgow to New Zealand. It was required that on voyages ships carried two chronometers in case one failed. These Thomas Mercer pieces are of exceptionally high quality and are a matched pair being serial numbers that follow on from each other. Both Chronometers have been serviced and run perfectly, keeping extraordinary good time for a mechanical machine.
