Size:13.3 CM Weight: 40.3 Grams A truly magnificent and highly collectible spoon from one of New Zealand's most noted silversmiths. Watts here employs a range of smithing techniques to great decorative effect. Curvaceous pools of vibrant sea green and turquoise enamel are set in flowing silver and intertwined with silver wire reminiscent of Art Nouveau's beloved whiplash motif. The bowl is gently hammered. The reverse is stamped "Reuben Watts" & "Sterling" hallmarks from his middle period dating this to the 1910's/ 20's. Note: A similar example held in Te Papa collection with the comment ‘This enamelled silver spoon exemplifies Watts' commitment to the Arts & Crafts style, for which he became well-known in New Zealand from his arrival in 1900 until the 1930s.’
