Size: 50cm in length As one of the most prized possessions the wakahuia was revered both as a treasure box and a work of art - passed down through families and given pride of place in the whare. As items of great mana and tapu, they continue to be revered and honoured today. This fine example of a Wakahuia is expertly carved in rauponga patterns and deep pākati. Paired opposing Manaia are finely worked - the tools of the master carver are here evident. The inset lid has a central tiki in high relief Lustrous rich brown patina This taonga is pending Y registration
