WW2/Korea Group to 206450 CR Campbell

The WW2, J Force and Korean War medal group issued to Colin Richard Campbell. The information given here was kindly provided by Howard Chamberlain, author of the book The New Zealand Korea Roll Honoring Those Who Served in the New Zealand Armed Forces in Korea 1950-1957.  Previous service in NZ Army during WW2 from 19 Sep 42. Initial Army No T4259 for service in Home Guard. Provisionally accepted for service in the Navy and transferred to RNZN 28 Apr 1943 mid 1945. Also served in BCOF, Japan second relief (service number 637570). Embarked 15 Jul 47. RTNZ 10 Aug 48. SOS J Force 8 Sep 48. Awarded 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, 1939/45 War Medal, NZ War Service Medal. Worked for the Auckland Transport Board as a Tram Conductor. He was enlisted as a member of the Auckland Division of the RNZN Volunteer Reserve (Service No 100175) Stoker 1st Class, from 6 Apr 49 to 4 Apr 1951. Driver for Campbell Carrington, Masterton. Enlisted in Kayforce 12 Jun 51. Expansion Force. Promoted T/Cpl on the day the Wahine left Auckland. After rescue from the Wahine was taken to Darwin. Flew from Darwin by QANTAS to Iwakuni, deplaning Japan 21 Aug 51. Embarked at Sasebo for sea crossing to Korea. Entered Korea 28 Aug 51. Reverted to Dvr, Aug 51 on ceasing to be PT instructor. Attended short course at 1 Comwel Div Battle Training School, Haramura 1 -4 Dec 51. Accidentally injured with suspected fractured rib when he went to help the driver of a 3-ton truck that had a blowout and had left the road. Later suffered from severe eczema. Emplaned Iwakuni Sep 52 for RTNZ Medical case. Served overseas one year, 44 days. Awarded Korea Medal and UN Korea Medal. Discharged from Kayforce 26 Feb 1953. Later served in RNZAF from 6 Apr 59 as an LAC with service number 79728. Medals were lost in a fire circa 1962 and were replaced at cost.
