Collection of 14 uncleaned Roman coins from the Holy Land including one partial silver. Cleaning coins, once a popular hobby for history enthusiasts, has all but disappeared due to legislation changes in the regions where these coins were commonly found. All but gone are the days of slowly chipping away the dirt to uncover the history hiding below. Being the first person in roughly 2000 years to lay eyes on the detail, and, attribute the coin to an emperor, is a feeling almost indescribable. Recovered before the ban on exporting ancient coins from the region, these coins represent an ever decreasing opportunity for someone interested in cleaning, preserving and learning about the Roman empire.
