Model 1840, Musician’s sword and scabbard (American Civil war)

19th century, US army, Emerson and Silver, Musician’s sword complete with brass regulation hilt. Handle adorned with simulated cord wrapping and D shaped knuckle-bow. Blade in good condition for the M1840 and stamped with makers marks and “US/DFM/1863” with knuckle-bow also bearing the “DFM” markings. Matching scabbard also marked “DFM” in find condition. The DFM markings correspond to the Union inspector's initials. Dexter F. Mosman. Mosman inspected swords at Emerson & Silver from 1862 to 1865. In 1863 he inspected both Musician swords such as this one, as well as NCO swords.
