Early Spanish rapier with blade markings for Garcia Julian of Toledo and Cuenca. Blade stamped with a “T” for Garcia Julian followed by what appears to be a series of indecipherable roman numerals. Debate rages as to the meaning of these numerals, please see pictures. Clamshell guard and handle appear correct for the period with wooden insert to handle. However, the knuckle guard, sweepings and crossbar lack the usual incised decoration. Overall good to fine condition.
