The 1914/15 Star trio issued to 6/1792 Albert Percival Bryant, who was wounded at Gallipoli, and saw extensive service on the Western Front. Albert Bryant was born 25/10/1895 at Christchurch, New Zealand. He was educated at Spreydon School, after which he worked on a station at Hamner. On the outbreak of war, Albert joined the Royal Navy as a stoker (K28415), serving on HMS Torch. This sloop was serving on the Australian Station, and was later transferred to the New Zealand Government as a training ship. Albert attested for service in the NZEF in January 1915, and embarked with the 4th Reinforcements, Canterbury Infantry Battalion. He landed on Gallipoli in early June 1915. During the chaotic battle for Chunuk Bair, on 7th August, Albert suffered a bayonet wound to his left shoulder, and was evacuated to the UK. He returned to his unit in Egypt in January 1916, subsequently transferring to France in April 1916. He served in the field on and off, due to sickness, throughout 1916 and 1917, with 1st (Canterbury) Company, 1st Battalion, Canterbury Infantry Regiment. He was evacuated to the UK in January 1918 suffering from Trench Feet, and remained in the UK for the remainder of the war. Albert died at Silverstream, Upper Hutt on 26th January 1975.
