New Zealand War Medal to 1668 John Sivens, 2nd Battalion, 14th Regiment of Foot John Sivens, born Cosby, Leicester, England in 1842. Enlisted in 14th Regiment on the 18th October 1860, giving his trade as Baker. Saw active service in New Zealand from January 1861 until September 1866, includng campaigns in the Waikato and Waitara. Was serving at Melbourne in 1867 when signed on for a further 13 years service. Returned to the UK around 1870, and posted to the Army Reserve 8th July 1871. Discharged 29th November 1881 with 3 good conduct badges. Sivens married Frances Kenney in 1872 and had a number of children, several of whom died in infancy. He worked as a ‘journeyman baker’ before retiring to Leicester. He died in 1920.
